Just like your clothing, the perfume you wear should also change in winter. There are a range of ways to alter your perfume choice to put it more in line with the cold of winter. The bright and energetic scents of summer might be out of place and you might be rugged up in the cold, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still smell great.

The winter chill is almost certain to have an effect on your wardrobe, and it should have an effect on the scents you wear as well. The bright and fruity perfumes of summer have no place in fall and winter, but while you might be rugged up to protect from the cold, that’s no reason that you shouldn’t make use of great perfumes.

It might be difficult, but with a little research, you can find best winter perfumes for women and pick one that suits your personal style well. Winter perfumes typically have a richer smell that puts you in mind of warmth, coziness and the indoors.

Why Should You Wear a Different Scent in Winter?

There are a few reasons why you should be changing the scent you wear come winter. One reason is that your fashion is likely to change, which means that if you have put thought into combining your normal scent with your fashion, it won’t present a unified picture anymore. Another is that the cold air has a real effect on perfume’s ability to be detectable, which means you need different sorts of scents to have an impact.

A few key components that are common across winter fragrances are:

    • Heavy floral scents: Rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang are at their best in winter perfumes, while the subtler scents of summer or spring are lost in the cold.

    • Warm scents: Things like amber, sandalwood and other scents that give off cozy and comforting feelings are prized in winter scents.

    • Spice and food scents: It isn’t unusual to find warmer and richer scents at work in winter perfume. Coffee, vanilla and cinnamon are all commonly used.

Part of the idea behind winter perfumes is that they will linger underneath heavy clothing, and their richness and warmth will evoke memories and feelings of coziness.

Winter Scent Can be Tied to Style

While there are some standard rules or tropes amongst popular winter scents, that doesn’t mean that every winter scent is the same or that they’ll all work for you. Just like any other scent you choose, take the time to consider why it does or doesn’t work for you and your personal style.

There are a number of different stylistic angles that winter scent combinations can approach from. If you want to present yourself as mysterious, then scents that incorporate leather or tobacco notes could work for you. If you have a more cozy and casual sort of style, then gourmand fragrances with vanilla or almond will do you a service.

As always when working with scents, there are no absolute right answers, only right answers for you.

Just Like Winter Clothing, Layer for Effect!

It might seem impossible for a winter perfume to be applied in the morning and still be effective after a long day bundled up under scarves and coats, but layering can help! You want to think of all of the elements that make up how you smell and ensure that they are all singing the same song.

By making sure that all of the products you use have similar or complementary scents, you can build a layered and unique fragrance that is all your own and will last all the longer for the layered effect.

    The Smell of Winter

For those with an interest in olfactory enticement, winter need not smell of musty clothes and cold winds. Winter can be a time of olfactory joy in the rich and comforting scents that work so well with the fashion of the season. Scents that blend different floral or woody notes are classic winter choices and a great place to start experimenting.

You might never have expected to enjoy wearing scents that are reminiscent of the kitchen, but using these cozy scents in winter can be very effective. It’s also harder in winter to overpower with scent, as the cold will cut away a good deal of any scents anyway.

Combining and experimenting with different winter-based scents can be fun as well. Be bold in the cold and find your winter scent!
